Fines and Replacement Fees

Overdue Fines and Fees By User Category

Students (Special, Graduate, Cross-Registered):

  • Fines: No fines on overdue main library items except recalls.  Fines for recalled items not returned are $1.00 per day per item.
  • Fees: 28 days after original due date,  system will automatically bill for item, block further borrowing, and charge replacement and processing fees plus a billing fee. Replacement and processing fees (but not billing fee) will be waived and borrowing privileges restored if item is returned or renewed.

Seniors:

  • Fines: No fines on overdue items except recalls
  • Fees: 42 days after original due date,  student will be billed for replacement and processing fees.  These fees (but not billing fee)  will be waived if item is returned or renewed. Seniors must return or pay for all library material and pay all fines before graduation.

Faculty, Administrators, Trustees, Language Interns, Faculty/Student Assistants and Staff:

  • Fines: No fines on overdue main library items.
  • Fees: One month after due date,  patron will be sent a bill and borrowing privileges will be suspended. Both bill and suspension will be automatically removed by the system when item is returned.

Special and Alumnae/ie Borrowers and Faculty/Staff Children:

  • Fines: 20 cents per day per item (an additional $1.00 per day per item for recalled material)
  • Fees: Borrowing privileges will be blocked after a 3-day grace period if item is not returned. 37 days after original due date, system will automatically bill for replacement and processing fees plus $10 billing fee. Replacement and processing fees (but not billing fee) will be waived and borrowing privileges restored if item is returned or renewed. 

Summer Students and Authorized Summer Programs Participants:

  • Fines: No fines on overdue main library items
  • Fees: Borrowing privileges will be blocked if patron owes any fees or has overdue items.  36 days after original due date, system will automatically bill for replacement and processing fees.   These fees (but not billing fee) will be waived if item is returned or renewed.

Fines for Overdue Computer Equipment

This equipment is checked out for in-house use only and must be returned by closing on the day of checkout. Fines are as follows:

  • Laptop computers: $5.00 per hour
  • Ethernet cables: $1.00 per hour
  • Zip/floppy drives: $1.00 per hour

Lost Library Materials

If library material is lost, the student under whose name it is checked out is responsible for paying the cost of the item plus a processing fee. The processing fee varies by material type from $10.00 to $25.00.

Damaged Materials

All library materials are assumed to be in good condition when borrowed unless poor condition is reported at that time. Borrowers will be held responsible for any damage to library materials while these materials are in their possession, and may be subject to charges for replacement computed on the basis used for lost library materials.
