Associate Professor of Religion Jonathon Kahn will present the third in a series of readings and talks by Vassar faculty regarding books that have an impact on them. Professor Kahn will read from and discuss James Baldwin's The Fire Next Time. Lunch will be served.
Jonathon S. Kahn (A.B. Princeton University; Ph.D., Columbia University 2003) is Associate Professor of Religion and teaches in the areas of religion and modern philosophy (with special interest in American pragmatism and religious naturalism, and the emergence of secularism); theories of religion and nationalism; and race, religion and democratic theory. His research has focused on illumining the place of religious moods and virtues in the writings of W. E. B. Du Bois. He has published articles on Du Bois and religion in Philosophia Africana and The Souls of W.E.B. Du Bois, (Northern Illinois, 2007). His book, Divine Discontent: The Religious Imagination of W.E.B. Du Bois, was published by Oxford University Press in 2009.
