Union catalog of holdings in more than 2000 libraries world-wide, including the British Library. Covers monograph and serial letterpress items printed before 1801 in the British Isles, Colonial America, United States of America (1776-1800), Canada, or territories governed by Britain, in all languages and printed in any other part of the world, wholly or partly in English or other British vernaculars. Includes records for every item in Pollard and Redgrave's A Short-Title Catalogue of Books Printed in England, Scotland, & Ireland and of English Books Printed Abroad 1473-1640 (STC); every item in Wing's A Short-Title Catalogue of Books Printed in England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, and British America and of English Books Printed in Other Countries 1641-1700; every item in the Eighteenth Century Short Title Catalogue (the predecessor of ESTC), including items catalogued by the American Antiquarian Society as part of the North American Imprints Program (NAIP); and newspapers and other serials which began publication before 1801.
