Welcome to the research guide for Africana Studies. Here you can find suggestions for print and electronic materials, as well as tips that will help you with your research. The Africana Studies department at Vassar College is multidisciplinary as are suggestions for the materials you'll find here. 

Researching in Africana Studies

To locate books and other materials related to Africana Studies, start with subject or keyword searching in the VC Library Catalog. Try your searches in the catalog and in the Discover search tool.

 

For either search you can use terms such as African Diaspora, African Americans--History, Caribbean French-speakingMaroons--Suriname, African Immigrants, etc. Conduct similar searches in general reference databases such as Proquest Research Library, Academic OneFile, or JSTOR to get started and hone your search terms for research in subject specific databases and more efficient searching in general.
