Finding Theater Reviews

sources for finding play reviews

Indexes

MLA Bibliography (1926-current)

Publications indexed by MLA focus on plays and films as texts, and on adaptations of literary sources; the focus is on critical interpretation rather than technical production.  One strategy is to search for keywords from the title of the play as well as the director's surname.

ProQuest
Expanded Academic Index

Both of these multidisciplinary databases access magazines, newspapers and scholarly journals.  Use the tabs at the top to limit to scholarly journals.

JStor

Searchable full text of many scholarly journals. NOTE: Coverage ends 5 years prior to the current year so it is not a good source for the most recent scholarship.

Project Muse (contains most recent years of many scholarly journals; coverage dates vary by publication)

Searchable full text collection of scholarly journals, including TDR and Theatre Journal.
