SONIFICATION: sound illustrates data

What is sonification?

Sonification is the use of sound to represent information: you take data of some kind and create sound with it. The information is translated into pitch, volume, stereo position, brightness, etc.  It facilitates the understanding of concepts through listening and makes data more accessible.

Watch below: "Two Trains" - Sonification of Income Inequality on the NYC Subway by Brian Foo.

Examples of sonification:  my growing collection of sonifications include:

Two tone: A easy sonification activity

Watch this introduction tutorial video to learn about how to get started using TwoTone. This walkthrough will show you the simple steps to get started with TwoTone so you’ll be quickly on your way to creating your first data sonification.

This tutorial uses the sample data set Honey Production in the USA (1998-2012), there are also several other spreadsheets built into the app to get you started and a handy tour built into the app.
