Our exhibition, Frances Burney: Life & Works draws almost exclusively from the Bergen-Madden Collection. It displays works by and about her divided into twelve topical categories (see the checklist which follows for more details). The bulk of the items shown here are first or early appearances of her work. We hope that the exhibition conveys a sense of Frances Burney’s oeuvre and the times in which she worked. The original letters to and from Burney are the only items with a different provenance: these were acquired by the Archives and Special Collections Library at the Paula Peyraud auction in 2006.
