Tear Down that Paywall! Campuswide Access to the New York Times, Washington Post and Wall Street Journal Websites

by Gretchen Lieb on 2023-08-28T13:50:23-04:00 | 0 Comments

Keeping up with the news during the semester is easier (and you might save some money) when you set up subscriptions to the New York Times, Washington Post and the Wall Street Journal using your Vassar access! Here are the details, and remember, if you don't like the news, go out and make some of your own (h/t Wes “Scoop” Nisker):

New York Times

A NYTimes Academic Pass provides you with full access to NYTimes.com and the NYTimes.com smartphone apps for a period of 52 weeks (364 days) from the date you activate it.

Set up your account at the New York Times website.
Click the link above to begin the registration process.  Then:

  1. Click on "Create account" to create a NYTimes.com account using your Vassar email address.

  2. At the bottom of the Welcome page, click "Continue."

  3. You should see a notification that states, "Check your email." Look for the message, Confirm Your Email Address (the "confirmation email"), which should arrive within 15 minutes.

  4. Click on the link in the confirmation email. This will simultaneously verify your eligibility and grant your Academic Pass, which will provide access to NYTimes.com for 52 weeks (364 days).

  5. If you don't get the confirmation email, check your spam filter. If you still do not receive it, send an email from your Vassar email account to edu@nytimes.com.

For questions and troubleshooting, check this FAQ page and/or write to a librarian.

Washington Post

Full access to the online Washington Post from 2004-present. Site-wide access is available from a web browser on any device through the library proxy, on campus or at home. WaPo content before 2004 is available through other library resources.

Use the link here- it's different than washingtonpost.com and routes through the Vassar proxy server.

Wall Street Journal

Visit WSJ.com/Vassar and use your Vassar email address to set up your account.

With your Vassar-sponsored account, you'll have access to all that WSJ.com has to offer, including news, newsletters, podcasts, mobile apps, and more. Check out the WSJ Student Hub for newsletters and resources focused on students, or the WSJ Professor Hub for resources that assist in integrating WSJ into your teaching and research. The WSJ+ benefits program includes a monthly complimentary ebook, accessible with your WSJ.com account credentials.

If you already have a personal WSJ.com account and would like to convert to a Vassar-sponsored account, call 1-800-JOURNAL or email academicsupport@dowjones.com.
