Vassar's catalogs

 

Vassar's Library Search Online Catalog includes much of the Music Library Collection, but not all.. (See the The Music Library Card Catalog for the remainder of the collection.)

Vassar's Library Search Online Catalog allows you to:

  • search books, articles, media, and more - all at the same time.
  • search several streamed audio databases at once.
  • The Advanced Search allows for initial searching by author, title, call number, subject and additional qualifiers such as format, publisher,  and language.

The Music Library Card Catalog (Music Library, First Floor) 

Use the Music Library Card Catalog to find older scores and LP recordings, not yet included in Vassar's Library Search Online Catalog.

 

SEARCHING MUSIC IN THE VASSAR LIBRARY-SEARCH CATALOG

  1. Use the ADVANCED search to Select Books, Articles, Media, & More
  2. Using the pull-down menu indicated by arrows:
  3. Do an "author/ creator" search by using the pull-down menu (by the arrow): for the composer's name
  4. Do a "title" search using the pull-down menu (by the arrow): to select a title search
  5. Add material type "scores"  (upper right) [or "sound recordings"]
  6. Press "search" (lower right.)

FINDING COLLECTED WORKS IN VASSAR'S CARD CATALOG

If you do not find the materials you are searching in the VASSAR LIBRARY-SEARCH CATALOG, check the Music Library card catolog.

  1. Go to the books/scores section of the card catalog (first three columns)
  2. Find the composer's name
  3. You will likely find a number of cards under the composer's name.  The card(s) for the collected works will come first, followed by cards for particular compositions in alphabetical order
