MUSIC RESEARCH: CITATION STYLES AND MUSIC

CITING YOUR PAPER: OVERVIEW

Each citation style facilitates the scholarly communication of specific kinds of information.  As a result,  citation style preferences differ.  When planning your paper:

1) Consult with your professor regarding the preferred citation style: 

Vassar Department of Music faculty preferences.

2) Whatever style you use, stay consistent with the style you have chosen! 

3) A fantastic, compact overview/comparison of each style is presented in this Purdue OWL Citation Style Chart.   You may want to keep it handy while writing your paper.

CITING MUSIC

It can be difficult to find citation guidelines for music materials in basic citation guides. Once you select a citation style for your paper, go to the following for information about citing music resources and additional links related to that citation style:
