After months of planning, Vassar College Libraries is pleased to announce its membership in HathiTrust. HathiTrust allows reading access to materials in the public domain and other materials to the fullest extent of copyright law. Begun in 2008, the mission of HathiTrust, a non-profit collaboration of libraries, is to digitally preserve the print cultural record, guided by the aims of scholarly, not commercial interests. Currently, it has over 17 million items. For more information about current HathiTrust projects, see the Welcome page. 
 

In order to take advantage of the benefits and features listed below, please make sure to click on the yellow “Login” button on the HathiTrust homepage.

• Download complete works in the public domain or for which HathiTrust has been given permission to make available. NOTE: Due to copyright law, HathiTrust is not able to permit reading access to any copyrighted materials, even materials contributed from members' own collections.
• Accessible Text Request Service for users who are blind and/or print-disabled. See  the Accessibility page for more information.
• Long-term preservation and access for digital collections contributed to the digital repository

• The Collection Builder allows users to create and share, if desired, featured collections. See the little collection of items related to Biblical Manuscripts as an example.
• Full-text search across all items in the repository (including public domain and in copyright works) The portal to full-text search can be reached at http://www.hathitrust.org.
• Individual volumes (when confirmed to be in the public domain) can be viewed and searched through a page turner mechanism. Pages are rendered as native browser files, PDFs, and OCR text. 
• Through its Federal Government Documents program, ensures digital access to U.S. federal publications.
• Preferred access to advanced HathiTrust Research Center computational services.
