Nonrequired reading, news, and more: Spend Winter Break with the Libraries

by Melanie Maksin on 2021-12-14T11:49:00-05:00 | 0 Comments

Spend Winter Break with the Vassar College Libraries! Our buildings will be closed December 23-January 2, but there are plenty of ways to stay connected no matter where you are or what you hope to get out of your Winter Break.

Are you over the moon to finally be able to get to the best part, aka Nonrequired Reading? Check out Overdrive, a platform that includes an app called Libby that you can add to a smartphone or tablet. Our Overdrive collection includes many of the titles you’ll find on the National Book Prize nominees list, the Booker Prize shortlist, and the NYTimes and NPR best books of the year lists, as well as many others, fiction and nonfiction, serious and not-so-serious. If you have a title you’d like to see in the Vassar Libraries Overdrive collection, you can make requests on the platform.

Are you itching to keep up with current events? Get free access to NYTimes.com with the NYTimes Academic Pass. You can also connect to the full Washington Post website with this special Vassar link, or check out other online news sources.

Are you ready to jumpstart your spring semester research? Librarians are available between January 3rd and the start of classes to meet with you over Zoom or answer your questions by email. Visit Ask a Librarian to contact us.

Remember: To use the library’s online resources (including databases, ebooks, ejournals, and more!), you’ll need to connect from off campus.

We hope you have a restful, safe, and joyful Winter Break, and we look forward to seeing you in 2022!
