Read for Fun at the Vassar Libraries

Checking out eBooks with Libby

The Libraries have a collection of eBooks and audiobooks on Libby. This collection is focused on popular and casual reading, so it's kind of like a digital version of our Browsing collection. Once you check out a book, you can choose to read it on the Libby app or browser, or on any Kindle app or device. See our collection of books at this link! To check a book out, you'll need to click on "Add a library card for Vassar College" and sign in with your OneLogin.

Screenshot from the Libby website showing a "New LGBTQ Titles" section and a "Just Added" section. Some of the LGBTQ books include Our Wives Under the Sea by Julia Armfield, Roses in the Mouth of a Lion by Bushra Rehman, and My Government Means to Kill by by Rasheed Newson. Some of the "Just Added" titles are Coming Home by Brittany Griner, The Hunter by Tana French, and The Secret Life of Sunflowers by Marta Molnar. Text indicates that there are even more titles in these categories than the ones displayed onscreen.

For more information about Libby and Overdrive (which is the online platform that Libby is a part of), see this page.

Top Tips for Libby and Overdrive

  • Wondering about the difference between Overdrive and Libby? Overdrive is a platform used for eBooks and audiobooks. Libby is the newer interface for accessing these books, created by the same company. We recommend Libby because we find it slightly more user-friendly, but they both have the same titles and allow you to sign in with Vassar to check out items.
  • If we don't have access to a book that you want on Libby/Overdrive, click on "Notify Me" next to the title after you've found it through the search function. This will let library staff know that someone wants that book. If we do purchase it, you'll automatically get a notification so that you can check it out right away.
  • You can check out eBooks and audiobooks year-round! If you're not approved to be on campus during the summer, you won't be able to check out physical books from our collections—but you can access Libby and Overdrive anytime as long as you have a OneLogin.
