Finding Ebooks

Finding Ebooks in Library Search

Most Vassar ebooks are catalogued in Library Search, but not all. For specialty items, you might need to search or browse within a specific ebooks collection such as one of our historical ebook collections, or for example, search in Overdrive to locate fiction bestsellers.

When using Library Search to locate ebooks, search by keyword, author, title, or other criteria. After conducting your search, refine your results to ebooks by using the left menu to select,

  • Availability: Available Online
  • Resource Type: Book or Book Chapter

These options are also available through the advanced search.

Troubleshooting

  • Clear cookies/cache from your browser. This keyboard shortcut is an easy way to clear web browser history and cache with Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Opera: [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Delete]
  • Try a different browser. Sometimes you can experience compatibility problems between certain platforms/browsers.
  • Be aware that we rarely purchase all of the ebooks on a particular platform. If it's not listed in our catalog, we probably don't have access (but you can contact us to double check).
  • Check your ereader software. Ebooks in ePub format require Adobe Digital Editions. This is not the same as Adobe Reader, which is used to open pdfs.
  • Is the ebook pdf trying to open in a browser's own pdf viewer (e.g. Chrome)? Try changing the browser settings to use Adobe Reader instead.
