Recalls and Holds

Only Vassar students, faculty, administrators and staff may recall items. To recall an item click on the red "RECALL" button on the top left of your search screen and follow the prompts.

Keep in mind:

  • Patrons are allowed to keep books and scores for 2 weeks after the date they checked it out (2 days for dvd/vhs).
  • If a book or score is checked out to an OFF-CAMPUS user, that user is allowed to keep the book for 29 days after the checkout date.
  • The exception is if an item is needed for Reserves; then the item must be returned by the due date specified on the Recall notice.
  • If the book or score is available via ConnectNY placing a ConnectNY request is usually faster than recalling Vassar's copy.  Likewise, if an item you have checked out has been recalled, see if you can borrow a copy via ConnectNY.
  • To ascertain the due date of recalled items, log into your Circulation Record, but be advised that the item may come back to the libraries earlier or later than that date.

Student late fees on recalled items returned after the recall notice date is $1.00 per day per item.

The pick-up location for recalled material is the Main Library Circulation Desk for all items except those belonging to Music Library. Notices are sent to the patron who recalled the item once it is returned and ready for pick up.
